Welcome to 2010! It’s a new year and that means it’s time to make some goals for the next 365 days.

Yes, I make New Year resolutions and generally attain many of them, but certainly not all of them. I know most people steer clear of NY resolutions, but I am not one of them. Taking personal inventory is a good thing. There is a saying, “If you aim for nothing, you’ll hit it every time.” The only way to grow and be the best me that God wants me to be for the greater good is by challenging myself and aiming for new heights. That includes introspection, which can be painful and messy.

Some of my goals are recycled, some are new. I focus on different areas: spirit, soul, mind, body, family, and work. This year I’m adding some new categories: Angel (our new dog, a rescue pet, and yes, we need to set some goals with her!) and finances. I ask the Lord for a theme and how he desires me to grow and be shaped in the next year. Over the years I’ve learned to set realistic targets, hence I actually accomplish some of them!

Slightly Off-Topic ~

I am still trying to figure out the thematic content of this blog. My tag is “musings on faith, culture, and politics,” but I’ve written mostly about politics. Honestly, it generates a lot of traffic and that is enticing. Yet, I don’t want to be trapped into writing about one topic and, frankly, it’s draining and time-consuming. The media machine never stops: it’s 24/7/365. I’ll leave that to more qualified people who enjoy the madness of  politics. My topics will reflect my life and interests–a hodgepodge of musings.

May this be a year of new beginnings, growth, and the realization of many dreams. Blessings to you.
